Catalog Basics
The Community Catalog is a metadata catalog designed to federate open resources for scientific research and AI development, making them discoverable to the broader community. This page addresses some of the most common questions about registering assets in the catalog.
Where can data/files be stored?
The Community Catalog does not store assets by default. Asset providers are responsible for hosting their own data, keeping their catalog entries up to date, and ensuring reliable access to their resources.
If you're part of a research group with a large amount of data, we can help explore providing an allocation through the Open Science Data Federation. Please contact us for more information.
What's the catalog review process?
When you submit an asset to the public catalog, it goes through a review process within the Wildfire Commons admin site. Our team carefully reviews each submission to ensure metadata quality and completeness before it's published.

What if I want to upload data that needs to be protected?
Wildfire Commons is intended to be a platform for federated assets and open discovery. We do not host or protect data. If you want to list your data in the catalog while restricting access to it, you can still publish metadata to generate community interest, and provide the necessary information for users to request access through you directly.
As an asset provider, you retain full control over the level of exposure you give your resources.
